The owners of this country house were looking for a weekend retreat from their frenetic lives in Sydney’s east. From the outset we envisioned an authentic and immersive, ‘generational’ farmhouse - distinctly European in flavour, characterised by pared back, earthy minimalism, intrinsically connected to the sweeping valleys and established gardens and orchards of this unique 100 acre estate.
The result is the crafting of a nuanced space of such tactile simplicity and quietude, that in its restraint, it commands a total and enveloping sense of relaxation. Winden Estate is a transportive expression of country living in a far off yet deeply familiar place.
"I am struggling to find words to describe the master ensuite. We are beyond thrilled with the result. The beauty of the space…it feels as though we are in a Europe. Being in this room brings us so much peace and seclusion."

"The inspiration for the Master Ensuite was pure fantasy; a stone grotto stumbled upon amongst the undiscovered rubble of an ancient European village."
- Megan Brown
Tiered walls were added to the space, gently folding inward from a generous entrance, adding drama and atmosphere while discreetly veiling practical bathroom elements. The path created leads to a monolithic marble slab, set deep into the limestone grotto, below the precious and timeless lantern sconce with its pleated porcelain and brass detailing.
"We knew the kitchen had to be designed very specifically to not only accommodate large gatherings of people but to provide a sense of family, companionship and fun. Having the freedom to congregate together to prepare a meal, bake cookies and juice fresh fruit from the orchard fills our hearts. The earthy tones of the joinery and countertop stone reflect the landscape, the meticulous detailing adds so much character…they nailed the brief!"

A linear veined marble vanity mimics the trellised courtyard beyond the French doors, creating a visual bridge between interior and exterior. Custom details like solid oak doors, bespoke bronze door hardware, Rose Uniacke plastered wall light and Articolo´s smoked glass sconces along with Henry Wilson forged handles introduce a layer of sophistication.
Our Studio proposed a sculptural and densely textured expression of ‘European rural’, creating spaces with warmth, a refined tranquillity and luxe grandeur.
"Honestly, it just feels sooooooo nice being here. My head and my heart has this sense of calm which I have not had for about 14 years!"
